The place was well located for what I specifically needed. I could see on the app that there were many available locations, and that’s great.

I wish they had a better way of tagging your bags and making sure the right people pick up the right bags.  All they do is have you write your name on some sticky notes and put one on each bag.  But it doesn’t really stick.  And they have you take a picture of your bags but they don’t compare your picture when you go pick up.  They just show you a pile of luggage and ask you which are your bags.  Seems like they ought to at least have tags that actually attach to the bags.

Bag rules and onsite coat rooms at the 9/11 Memorial

The 9/11 Memorial Museum limits each bag or personal item to a maximum of 8 by 17 by 19 inches. Larger bags, backpacks and large umbrellas must be stored in the onsite Coat Rooms. These are on the Concourse Lobby level and the Pavilion Auditorium level, and also take other objects that security considers too large or dangerous.

All visitors face mandatory security screening. This includes passing through magnetometers, with every bag and personal belonging screened by x-ray. Meeting the size limit does not remove the screening requirement. Security staff may also refuse admission or storage for large personal items at their discretion. The Coat Rooms are therefore the museum’s designated option for oversized bags, backpacks and large umbrellas, rather than taking these items through the entry screening area.

Storing oversized bags and booking your spot

Stasher has no bag size or weight limits, so oversized luggage can be stored near 9/11 Memorial without a Stasher size restriction. A spot is booked online with a trusted local shop or hotel, or in a self-service smart locker. Bags remain safely out of sight until collection. Every Stasher booking near 9/11 Memorial includes the Stasher Guarantee, covering up to US$14,000 per booking. One Stasher point near the 9/11 Memorial entrance stays open late, providing a late collection option. Stasher storage is near the memorial, not inside it.

Visit duration, ticketing, and getting to the Memorial

The 9/11 Memorial Museum visit typically lasts 45 to 90 minutes, so book 1 to 2 hours of luggage storage in 9/11 Memorial. Museum tickets are timed and must be purchased in advance, making the ticket slot a useful anchor for that storage period.

The site is accessible by the A, C, 1, 2 and 3 trains to Chambers Street, the E train to World Trade Center, and the 1 train to WTC Cortlandt. The Memorial is open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Museum opens Wednesday through Monday and on select Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Its last entry is 5:30 p.m. Keep the storage window within the relevant opening hours, particularly for a Museum visit, so bags are collected before closing.
