Getting to the opera with luggage

The opera stands at Opernring 2 in Vienna's 1010 district, and Oper/Karlsplatz station is about 33 metres away — a one-minute walk. Inside, an inclined lift near the opera café takes you to the stalls or the gallery.

For anyone flying in, Wien Mitte station is the city terminus for the City Airport Train, which runs non-stop to Vienna International Airport.

Planning your visit

Admission to the Vienna State Opera for performances opens one hour before the start, so there's little point arriving much earlier with bags in tow. The ticket hall and café are free to enter outside of performance or tour times, which is handy if you only need to drop in briefly. Remember there are no performances at all in July and August.
