Luggage storage at Paris stations and hubs

Paris is served by six main-line terminus stations, with Gare du Nord, Gare de Lyon, Gare Montparnasse, Gare d'Austerlitz, Gare Saint-Lazare and Gare de l'Est all linked to the metro and, in several cases, an RER line.

Gare du Nord has a manual left-luggage desk called the consigne on level -1, opposite track 3, open daily from 06:15 to 23:15. Gare de l'Est runs its own left-luggage service at level -1 near the metro entrance, next to the PAUL bakery.

The CDG Express links Charles de Gaulle Airport to Gare de l'Est in a non-stop 20-minute run, with dedicated luggage space on board, which is worth knowing if you are flying in and need a station-side drop.

Arriving in Paris from the airports

The RER B is a rail link from Charles de Gaulle Airport, serving terminals 1, 2 and 3 and reaching Gare du Nord in about 34 minutes. A one-way ticket costs €11.45, with trains running from roughly 5:00 am to midnight every 10 to 20 minutes, so it is useful if your flight lands within those hours. For Orly, the practical route is the RER B to Antony, then a transfer onto the Orlyval shuttle train.

Sights and museums: bag rules

The Louvre turns away suitcases and large bags outright, with anything bigger than 55 x 35 x 20 cm refused entry. The Eiffel Tower has its own rules: large luggage is not allowed inside, there are no left-luggage or cloakroom facilities, and a luggage sizer at security enforces the limit.

The tower is located in the 7th arrondissement and is reachable from Champ de Mars – Tour Eiffel on RER line C, a five-minute walk from Entrance 1. The Centre Pompidou also bars bags, suitcases and containers over 55 cm long, 20 cm wide and 40 cm deep, though it does have a cloakroom in the Forum where visitors can leave coats and bags.

The Fondation Louis Vuitton offers a free public cloakroom for coats, backpacks and umbrellas, but suitcases and bulky objects cannot come into the building. Items larger than 55 x 35 x 20 cm are not accepted inside the visitor areas, lockers or exhibition rooms of the Jardin des Plantes. The musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac prohibits suitcases, travel bags and rucksacks larger than A3.

The Musée Picasso Paris bans suitcases and bulky baggage, and the cloakroom cannot store them either. La Galerie Dior bars bags over 42 x 29.7 cm and all backpacks, which must go in the cloakroom. The Atelier des Lumières prohibits suitcases, travel bags and bags over 40 x 30 x 20 cm, with no storage facilities on site.

Getting around Paris with luggage

The RATP lets you carry whatever bags, packages or luggage you can manage alone, as long as you don't block other passengers or movement through the network. Dangerous or unwieldy items such as gas bottles, flammable products, sharp objects, large household appliances or an excessive volume of luggage are prohibited and can draw a €150 fine. If you're heading to Disneyland Paris with your bags, the RER A takes you to Marne-la-Vallée – Chessy station, just a short walk from the park gates.

If you're getting around the city with bags, note that Printemps Haussmann has no public lockers or cloakroom, though its hands-free shopping service lets you combine, pay for and pick up purchases in one place. It is accessible from Havre-Caumartin metro station on lines 3 and 9, and from Auber station on the RER A. The Bercy district is served by Cour Saint-Émilion on metro line 14, while Bercy station itself is on lines 6 and 14.
