Berlin's holiday rentals rarely come with anywhere to leave luggage between check-out and a late train, so we'll help you pick between the city's own storage desks and Stasher's nearby shops.

Some of the city's largest stations and its airport do have lockers or a storage desk, while most of the major sights either require you to check bags with staff or offer nothing at all. A few stops, like Ostkreuz and Warschauer Straße, have no station storage of their own. Berlin is the capital city of Germany and also one of the 16 federal states (Bundesländer) of Germany. Berlin Hauptbahnhof is Europe’s largest junction station and a key hub for national and international rail traffic, with around 300,000 travellers and visitors using it each day. The Airport Express (FEX) is the fastest public transport link between Berlin Hauptbahnhof and BER Airport, with a journey time of approximately 23 minutes. Luggage storage at the main stations and airport

Berlin Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) provides luggage lockers located in the car park outside the main building in area C on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors, costing between €4 and €6 per day. Berlin Friedrichstraße is the other solid option, with nearly 170 lockers on the ground floor on the Spree side of the station. Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) provides baggage storage in Terminal 1 at the train station level U1, run by an external company at that desk. The Flughafen BER station is directly beneath Terminal 1 and serves both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The airport is served by the Airport Express (FEX) and regional train RE20, both of which run directly to Berlin Hauptbahnhof. Berlin Ostkreuz offers no lockers or other storage facilities, though it does connect you to BER Airport via S-Bahn line S9.

Warschauer Straße is the same: no station lockers of its own.

Sights and attractions: bag rules and lockers

Olympiastadion Berlin has no luggage storage service or lockers on site, and no facility at all for suitcases or large bags. The Zoologischer Garten provides no luggage storage for visitors, for security reasons, and it is open 365 days a year. At Dalí Berlin, anything larger than A4 must be left with museum staff at the front desk or in a locker.

The Jüdisches Museum Berlin requires coats, umbrellas, large bags and backpacks to be left at the cloakroom, and it doesn't store suitcases larger than carry-on size (56 x 45 x 25 cm).

The Deutsches Technikmuseum bans luggage and bulky items from exhibition rooms, with backpacks and larger bags stored in lockers. The Berliner Fernsehturm sits opposite the Alexanderplatz S-Bahn station, where lockers are available on the ground floor on the right side of the DB travel centre.

That's a practical pairing, because tickets for the tower are allocated to a specific time slot and access is only possible during your booked slot, so a locker beforehand prevents you from hauling bags through the queue, and the tower is open from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. between March and October and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. between November and February.

The Brandenburger Tor is freely accessible 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and S+U Brandenburger Tor station takes you directly to the site via S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S25, S26 and U-Bahn line U5. The Museumsinsel is served by Museumsinsel station on the U5 line, and a €24 day ticket covers admission to all the museums there.

Checkpoint Charlie is one of the most famous former border crossings between East and West Berlin during the Cold War, and its U-Bahn station Kochstraße puts the site and the Mauermuseum within easy reach, open every day from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Alexa Berlin shopping centre provides no luggage storage or cloakroom facility itself, so don't plan to shop with a suitcase in tow.

Visitors are prohibited from bringing suitcases and large bags into the Badeschiff. Zoologischer Garten is served by the S-Bahn station Zoologischer Garten (lines S3, S5, S7, S9) and the U-Bahn station Zoologischer Garten (lines U2, U9).

Getting around the city with your bags

Berlin Hauptbahnhof is within a 10-minute walk of the government district, including the Reichstag building. Berlin Friedrichstraße links S-Bahn, U-Bahn, regional trains, trams and buses, making it a useful interchange if you're moving between lockers and a sight elsewhere.
