Mont Royal: what to expect and where to stow your bag

Getting up the mountain with luggage

The Green Line drops you at Peel Station, a 9-minute walk from the start of the trail climb, or about 15 minutes to the park entrance near avenue des Pins. From Mont-Royal metro station, bus 11 (west) stops at Remembrance/Chemin du Chalet or Lac-aux-Castors inside the park. The Kondiaronk lookout sits by the park welcome centre, and the Mont Royal Chalet can only be reached along the pedestrian-and-cyclist-only Olmsted Path, so driving there isn't an option. From the Smith House parking lot it's a 600-metre walk along that same gravel path to the Chalet and Belvédère, which is slightly inclined and difficult for wheelchair users. Mont-Royal station on the Orange line serves the park via bus routes from 470, avenue du Mont-Royal Est.

Nearby sights worth planning around

Saint Joseph's Oratory on the mountain's slope draws nearly 2 million visitors a year as a major pilgrimage site. Downtown Montréal, the city's commercial and entertainment core, is known for high-fashion shopping, a varied food scene and the Quartier des spectacles with its year-round festivals and performances. If you're heading there after the mountain, sorting your bag first means not carrying it through either place.
