Baltimore Penn Station is the main inter-city passenger rail hub in Baltimore, located about one mile north of Downtown between Mount Vernon and Station North.

The station itself has no official left-luggage desk, cloakroom, or public lockers, so don't plan on dropping off a bag at a counter before exploring. Amtrak does offer temporary bag storage here at $20 per item for ticketed passengers or $30 per item for the general public with a valid photo ID, for a 24-hour period.

Don't confuse that with Amtrak's checked baggage service, which is for ticketed passengers and is not public left-luggage or locker storage. MDOT MTA describes Baltimore Penn Station as a vital intermodal centre where MARC (Penn Line), Light Rail, local bus services, and Amtrak connections (including Acela and Northeast Regional) connect directly at the station, so you can reach it from across the region with luggage in tow.

Getting around without a bag

The MARC Penn Line links the station to BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, Washington, D.C., and Harford County, so you might arrive with time to spare before a connection. From the station, the Inner Harbor waterfront is a 25- to 35-minute walk, and the Peabody Institute is about 10 blocks south, roughly a 16-minute walk. The station provides lifts and free passenger assistance with baggage handling where available.

Charles Street sits less than two blocks north of the station, though there's no public locker at the station itself, so sort out bag storage before arriving.
