Bag rules at Santander's attractions

Centro Botín requires anything larger than 30x30 cm to stay out of the exhibition rooms, though it does provide a cloakroom and lockers for exactly that purpose. Faro Santander takes a similar line, asking visitors to deposit backpacks, large bags, and suitcases in its cloakroom before entering the museum.

The Museo de Arte Moderno y Contemporáneo de Santander y Cantabria (MAS) prohibits bulky objects like backpacks, suitcases, and umbrellas inside, requiring visitors to leave them at the entrance when staff request it.

Getting around Santander with luggage

TUS city bus drivers will refuse any luggage or item that, because of its size, weight, or characteristics, may endanger or inconvenience other passengers, though permitted items under 100 x 60 x 25 cm are exempt from that refusal. Larger items such as surfboards are accepted up to 2 metres long if they're cased and held vertically in the central or rear platform area. Folded scooters, conventional or electric, are also fine as long as you keep them in your possession and out of other passengers' way.

Santander is the capital of Cantabria, a port city on Spain's northern coast facing the Cantabrian Sea. Its railway station sends Renfe intercity trains south to Palencia, Valladolid, Madrid, and Alicante, while FEVE metre-gauge services run east to Bilbao and west to Oviedo. Brittany Ferries adds weekly sailings from the port to Plymouth and Portsmouth. Around the city itself, the Magdalena Peninsula and its palace are free to enter between 8:00 and 22:00, while the Cantabrian Maritime Museum sits along the bay waterfront between the San Martín promontory and Los Peligros beach.
