Sevilla-Virgin del Rocio Train Station

Located south of the city center, Seville’s “Virgin of the Dew” station sits conveniently near the hospital. Trains run south to Málaga and head north to Madrid and Barcelona.

Unfortunately, Seville’s southern station has no official luggage storage facilities.

Seville Bus Station

You’ll find Seville’s main bus station at the Plaza de Armas, slightly west of the historical center. The city constructed the station to accommodate visitors for the 1992 Universal Exposition.

Museo de Bellas Artes

Once home to one of Seville’s most prominent Countesses, the Lebrija Palace features an elaborate interior, hosting an awe-inspiring range of artworks from ancient Greece and Rome. Palace highlights include 580 square meters of the most intricate mosaics in Europe.

Plaza del Toros

The Plaza de Toros houses the city’s Bullfighting Museum, which educates the public and showcases artifacts from Seville’s most celebrated matadors. But the big party at the Plaza del Toros happens in April when locals don their finest outfits and attend the Feria de Abril.

Alcázar Real de Sevilla

Seville’s Royal Palace is the city’s primary tourist destination with its breathtaking architecture. The building hails back to 913 when Moorish Caliph Abdurrahman III an-Nasir ordered its construction over an ancient Roman site.

In the 15th century, the reconquering Christians adapted the palace to suit their purposes. Thankfully, the Spanish monarchs left much of the original structure and ornamentation intact. Later occupants added Renaissance, Baroque, and Flemish touches, creating one of the most magnificent buildings in the world.

Seville Cathedral

Seville’s mammoth Catedral de Santa María de la Sede is the most expansive Gothic cathedral in the world. Highlights include Christopher Colombus’s tomb, several chapels, and the Moorish minaret, now called the Giralda Tower. You can climb the tower by a combination of ramps and steps, but you won’t be able to do either with heavy luggage.

Plaza de España de Sevilla

Located in the middle of María Luisa Park, the Plaza de España was a centerpiece for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition. The 170-metre oval plaza features astonishing architecture facing the Guadalquivir River.

Visitors will find plenty of historical sites at the plaza. But if you’re looking for something more active, you can rent rowboats or 4-wheeled bikes to explore the surrounding park.

Barrio de Santa Cruz

Seville’s old Jewish quarter is a peaceful oasis of winding cobblestone streets lined by jasmine, bougainvilleas, art galleries, and quaint restaurants. You’ll want to stop by the Centro de Interpretation Juderia to discover more about Seville’s Jewish population.

Additionally, you’ll find the splendid Casa de Pilatos in the Santa Cruz neighborhood, which gives you a glimpse of what daily life was like for southern Spain’s 16th-century aristocrats. The Hospital de Los Venerables Sacerdotes nearby houses many of Diego Velázquez’s greatest paintings.

Torre del Oro

Seville’s Golden Tower was the starting point for trade with the Americas. The Moors built the 16-meter tower in the 12th century as part of a fortress wall. When the Catholics took over, the tower became the arrival point for ships to deposit treasures from the New World.

Today, the tower includes a small naval history museum, and you can climb to the top for incredible views of the city. The Torre del Oro also makes an excellent embarkment point for a boat trip down the Guadalquivir.

Triana District

The Triana District has always been an outsider area. The Roma people migrating from the east brought their traditions until they were ousted in the 1960s. But even though the area has become more “hip” and gentrified, you can still feel their spirit throughout the neighborhood.

La Iglesia del Divino Salvador

Seville’s Church of the Divine Savior is the city’s second most important church and a fine example of Spanish Baroque architecture. The city destroyed the existing mosque in 1671 to start construction on the new church, which was finished in 1712. Frescos, a dazzling altar, and gilded wooden bas reliefs await inside.

After you’ve admired the church, have a snack at one of Salvador Square’s renowned tapas bars.
