Bag rules and lockers at Universal Studios Japan

Universal Studios Japan is a major entertainment and leisure landmark in Osaka, drawing both domestic and international visitors, so most people arrive with at least a day bag in tow. Before you reach the gates, everyone passes through mandatory security screening that includes metal detectors, X-ray machines, and manual bag inspections. There's no clear-bag rule, but you'll need to place any bag on an inspection table with its contents visible.

The lockers only accept luggage that fits inside them, and anything too large for them isn't accepted. Separately, baggage that is 400 mm wide, 590 mm long, or 300 mm high or larger is too big for the X-ray equipment and can't be brought into the park.

Getting to the park with luggage

Universal City Station is the closest rail stop, just a three- to five-minute walk from the park entrance, and the JR Sakurajima Line runs there directly. From Osaka Station, the fare to Universal City is a flat 180 yen, so it's an easy hop if you're already staying in the centre. If you arrive by bus, expect to be dropped in the parking area with a ten- to fifteen-minute walk ahead of you to reach the gates. There's also a ferry called Captain Line linking the park with Osaka Aquarium in about ten minutes, handy if you're combining both in one day.

Universal CityWalk Osaka sits right outside the main gates, with shopping and dining options that make it a natural meeting point or a place to grab food before heading in.
