Elbphilharmonie bag policy and storage

Visitors to the Elbphilharmonie often arrive with a bag and no plan for what to do with it before a concert or a trip up to the Plaza.

The venue sits in HafenCity, with the nearest public transport stops a short walk away, so getting there seldom involves a long haul with luggage. Concertgoers with Grand or Recital Hall tickets can head straight up to the Plaza starting two hours before the event begins, while everyone else needs a separate ticket, though neither option addresses where a suitcase goes in the meantime. Any bag of A3 size (42 x 30 cm) or larger must go into the free lockers at ground level before you enter the concert halls. The free lockers are in the corridor on the right side of the main entrance area, near the long escalator. Lockers come in three sizes: 27 x 13 x 47 cm, 27 x 42 x 47 cm, and 27 x 87 x 47 cm. Cloakrooms are available in the concert foyers, with the Grand Hall cloakrooms located only on the 11th floor. Tickets for the Elbphilharmonie Plaza cost €5 per person, with a reduced price of €3. Getting to the Elbphilharmonie with luggage

The Elbphilharmonie sits in Hamburg's HafenCity district, so arriving with luggage usually means a short walk from public transport. The closest stop is the Elbphilharmonie landing stage for ferry line 72 from Landungsbrücken, roughly 80 metres from the entrance. Bus lines 2 and 111 stop at Am Kaiserkai (Elbphilharmonie), about 150 metres away. Underground line U3 at Baumwall station is approximately 450 metres from the venue, while U4 at Überseequartier is a longer walk at around 950 metres. If you are coming across the Speicherstadt, bus 6 stops at Auf dem Sande (Speicherstadt), situated about 550 metres from the Elbphilharmonie. Concert tickets for the Elbphilharmonie are valid for a round trip within the HVV network on the day of the event.

Visiting the Plaza and nearby sights

The Elbphilharmonie's main draw beyond its concerts is the Plaza, a viewing platform 37 metres above ground level with 360-degree views over Hamburg and the harbour. Standard adult tickets cost €5, while children and young people aged 3 to 17, students, apprentices, and certain other groups pay a reduced €3. Children under 3 visit free and need no ticket. Concert tickets for the Grand and Recital Halls include Plaza admission starting two hours before the event begins, so separate Plaza tickets are not required for those concertgoers. The Plaza is closed on December 24, and on December 31 it is open from 10:00 to 18:00 with last admission at 17:30. The Elbphilharmonie is celebrated for its architecture, which combines a historic red-brick warehouse base with a modern, wave-like glass structure.

Jungfernstieg is a scenic promenade along the Binnenalster lake known for shopping and as a popular meeting place. There is no entry fee to visit the Jungfernstieg promenade itself.
