Bag rules and storage at the stadium

Ashton Gate Stadium sits in the Ashton Gate area of Bristol, serving as both the home of Bristol City Football Club and the Bristol Bears rugby team, as well as a conference and events venue.

If you're heading there with a suitcase or any bag larger than A4, you'll need to sort out storage before you arrive, because bags that size aren't permitted inside. The stadium recommends keeping any bag you do bring to A4 size or smaller, and transparent where possible.

Every bag brought into the stadium is subject to a security search at the entrance. The venue itself has no bag drop, left luggage or storage facilities of any kind, so don't count on leaving anything at the gate.

Getting to Ashton Gate with luggage

Parson Street railway station is the nearest rail stop to the stadium, a 15-minute walk away. Bristol Temple Meads, Bristol's main train station, is much further out at a 40- to 50-minute walk, so it's not a practical approach with a heavy bag. The M2 MetroBus route stops near the stadium with a nine-minute walk to the entrance, which may suit lighter luggage. There's a dedicated walking route from the city centre that crosses the river at Ashton Avenue Bridge and passes through Greville Smyth park before entering via Ashton Road.

Nearby attractions and their own bag rules

If you're combining the stadium with other Bristol sights, Ashton Court Estate is a country park and mansion with 850 acres of woodland and grassland, known for mountain biking, golf and hosting the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.

SS Great Britain is a vibrant waterside cultural hub at the Bristol Dockyards, where you can explore the 200-year-old steamship, the Being Brunel museum and the historic dry dock. The nearest mainline station serving SS Great Britain is Bristol Temple Meads, a 26-minute walk from the attraction.

Bear in mind that Bristol Temple Meads has no left luggage facility or luggage storage of its own, so plan ahead if you're arriving by train and heading to the dockyards with bags.
