Lisbon Airport: A Guide to Luggage Storage with Stasher
Humberto Delgado Airport sits closer to its city than almost any other major hub in Europe. The runway begins around 7km north of central Lisbon — close enough that the final approach passes directly over the rooftops, low enough that residents of Alvalade and Areeiro can identify aircraft by their tail liveries. For travellers, the upside is significant: a 20-minute metro ride drops you into the centre. The downside is an airport that hasn't grown to match its numbers, and now handles more than 30 million people a year through a terminal designed for considerably fewer.
The compression shows in the practical details. Bag drops queue out the door at peak hours, security can take longer than the flight if you've timed it badly, and the left-luggage facility is small enough that most travellers head into town without it ever appearing as an option. A replacement airport at Alcochete, on the south side of the Tagus, is finally under construction — but until that opens, Humberto Delgado is what you've got.
Is there luggage storage at Lisbon Airport?
Yes — there's a left-luggage counter in the arrivals area, run by Aerobag. It charges by the hour for short stops, with daily rates that climb past €10 once you stay longer than half a day. The counter is small and capacity is limited; during summer weekends, cruise turnaround days, and major event weeks — Web Summit being the obvious one — the facility frequently runs out of space before lunch.
Stasher works around that by partnering with hotels and businesses around the airport, along the metro line into the centre, and across the city itself. The advantages line up neatly against what the airport counter can't offer:
- Space reserved before you arrive. Book online ahead of your flight, and there's nothing to queue for.
- Lower daily rates. Stasher pricing starts from a few euros per bag, well below the airport counter once you cross the two- or three-hour mark.
- Longer hours. Many partners open early and close late, with several running 24/7 — useful around red-eye arrivals and late-night departures.
- Insurance built in. Every bag is covered against loss or damage.
- Flat fee per size. No surcharges for big suitcases, surfboards, or oversized cases.
For an hour or two between flights, the airport's own counter still works. For anything longer, Stasher is the cheaper and more reliable option.
Luggage Storage at Lisbon Airport Using Stasher
Booking takes around two minutes. Search by location and date, pick a Stashpoint, pay online, and turn up with the confirmation and a photo ID.
Where the Stashpoints sit
Coverage near the airport is strongest in two clusters. The first is the airport district itself — around Aeroporto metro station, the surrounding hotel zone, and the Olaias area one stop south. The second is in Parque das Nações, the riverside district 10 minutes east of the terminal, well placed for visitors planning to spend the day around the Oceanário or the Vasco da Gama Tower. Further partners are spread along the Linha Vermelha into Saldanha, Avenida da Liberdade, and the Baixa.
Hours and access
Many sites are run from hotel front desks and operate well outside normal retail hours. The site shows real-time availability and lets you filter by opening times — useful around the early-morning Madrid and London arrivals or the late-night returns from the Algarve.
Price
Daily rates start from a few euros per bag with no charge for size, weight, or oversized items. Multi-day bookings drop the per-day rate further, and group reservations carry their own discount.
What to do near the airport
A few starting points if you've got time between flights and the central sights feel too far for the window you have.
Parque das Nações
The riverside district five minutes east of the airport by metro. Built for Expo '98 and still the most architecturally distinctive part of the city — wide promenades along the Tagus, the cable car between the Vasco da Gama Tower and the Oceanário (Europe's largest aquarium), and Calatrava's Gare do Oriente next door.
Centro Comercial Vasco da Gama
The mall sitting on top of Oriente station, useful for last-minute shopping, food court meals, and waiting out the gap before a flight in air conditioning through the summer heat.
Alvalade and Roma
The residential neighbourhoods just south of the airport are a calmer side of Lisbon than the tourist core: classic 1940s and 1950s architecture, traditional pastelarias, and the Estádio José Alvalade if you're a football fan.
Aerobus or metro into the centre
If you've got three hours or more, the Aerobus or the metro drops you in the Baixa quickly enough that a proper meal on the Rua Augusta or an espresso on Praça do Comércio becomes realistic. Stash bags first, then go.
Cristo Rei and the south bank
For something different, the cable-ferry across to Cacilhas or the longer crossing to Almada brings you to the Cristo Rei monument and a different angle back across the river towards the city.
Events that fill the airport
Lisbon's calendar pushes airport demand sharply higher around a handful of reliable weeks each year.
Web Summit — November
One of the largest technology conferences in the world, drawing around 70,000 attendees from across the globe to the Altice Arena in Parque das Nações. Hotels, flights, and storage all tighten significantly across the four conference days.
NOS Alive — July
A three-day music festival on the waterfront at Algés, west of central Lisbon. Headliners draw a steady international flow through the airport.
Rock in Rio Lisboa — June, alternating years
Held at Parque da Bela Vista, attracting around half a million attendees across two weekends. The off-year version doesn't run, but in years that it does, expect heavy arrivals.
Santo António and Lisbon's June festivals
Throughout June, the city celebrates its patron saint with street parties across Alfama, Mouraria, and Bica. The 12th is the main night. Visitor numbers climb sharply through the month, particularly from Spain, France, and the UK.
Lisbon Marathon — October
Around 30,000 runners across the marathon, half-marathon, and shorter distances. The international entry list is large and the airport sees a sustained demand spike for the week.
Cruise turnaround days
Lisbon is a major repositioning port for transatlantic cruises in spring and autumn. Turnaround days see hundreds of passengers cycling through the city between disembarkation and a flight home — bag storage demand spikes accordingly.
Onward transport from the airport
The connections from Humberto Delgado are unusually good, given how central it is.
Metro Linha Vermelha
The Red Line runs directly from Aeroporto station into the wider network. Oriente (one stop, for the train station and Parque das Nações), Alameda for the Green Line, Saldanha for the city's commercial spine, and São Sebastião for the Blue Line. Around 20 minutes to the centre at a flat fare.
Aerobus
Two routes connecting the terminal to central Lisbon and Cais do Sodré, the latter useful for ferries to the south bank. A practical option if you've got bulky luggage or a hotel away from a metro stop.
Gare do Oriente
One metro stop south of the airport, and Lisbon's principal long-distance railway hub. AP and Intercidades services run to Porto in around three hours and to Faro in three to four. International buses, including FlixBus and Rede Expressos, also depart from here.
Sintra and the western suburbs
For trains to Sintra, Cascais, and the coast, change at Saldanha or Sete Rios.
Taxis and rideshares
A regulated taxi rank operates immediately outside both terminals, with Bolt and Uber both active in the city. Fares to the centre are typically modest.
Long-term and group storage near the airport
The daily rate stays flat however long you store, which makes the airport area a sensible place to leave the bulk of your luggage if you're heading out of Lisbon for the wider trip — a week on the Algarve, a road trip to Porto and the Douro, a circuit through Évora and the Alentejo. Park a main suitcase near the airport, travel on with a smaller bag, and pick up before flying home.
Group bookings work the same way: a flat per-bag fee with no bulk surcharge. For tour operators, school trips, or anyone coordinating storage for ten or more pieces — particularly common around Web Summit and the summer festival weeks — the support team can help arrange capacity in advance. The flexible cancellation policy lets you book ahead and adjust if your itinerary shifts.
Use the bag counter and date picker on the Stasher site to see what's currently available around the airport and across the rest of Lisbon.
