On the MTR network, each passenger may carry only one piece of luggage with total dimensions not exceeding 170 cm and no single side longer than 130 cm. MTR advises anyone with bulky baggage, trolleys, or wheelchairs to use lifts and wide gates rather than escalators or regular turnstiles.

On the high-speed rail, the baggage allowance is set differently: 20 kg total for adults and 10 kg for children, with each item's total dimensions capped at 130 cm. Hong Kong Tramways permits only luggage that is no more than 7 kg in mass or 30 litres in volume, so a large suitcase is unlikely to suit the trams.
