Useful information about Milan Duomo

They say the Duomo di Milano took 600 years to build; so long, in fact, that the Milanese developed a saying: “lungh cumè la fabrica del domm,” meaning “as long as the work on the Duomo,” to refer to an endless task. You could certainly spend several days exploring the Cathedral, but you’ll want to keep some things in mind:

  • Select areas are free and open to the public, but most cost a few euro to visit
  • Combination passes can be purchased online
  • Separate tickets for the Duomo Museum and Archaeological Area are only available at onsite ticket offices
  • The rooftop terraces are only open seasonally, so be sure to check the Duomo website for dates when planning your trip
  • Tickets are valid for a single entrance to each area up to 3 days from purchase

Top things to do near the Milan Duomo

Known both as a “Global City” and one of the four Fashion Capitals of the world, Milan is a fusion of the old and the new, with world-class business schools residing alongside packed sports stadiums and soaring skyscrapers that dwarf ancient Roman ruins. The area around the Duomo is like a small city in itself, with architectural, artistic and confectionary wonders quite literally in every direction.

If you need some direction, look no further - we’ve compiled a list to get you started:

  1. Stroll through the world-famous Golden Square, or Quadrilatero d'Oro shopping district to see designer boutiques and elegant eateries
  2. Admire Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper (and decide for yourself if the figure to Christ’s right is the disciple John or Mary Magdalene). You’ll find it at the Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie, an UNESCO World Heritage site
  3. Relive the intrigue of Renaissance Milan at the Castello Sforzesco, once fortress to the powerful Sforza family that ruled the city.
  4. Adjacent to the Duomo is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a sort of shopping mall home to the original Prada store and iconic neoclassical vaulted-glass ceilings.
  5. Opposite the Galleria is the Museo del Novecento where you’ll find a collection of Milan’s modern and contemporary art housed in the former Arengario Palace, designed in the fascist style for the dictator Benito Mussolini in 1936.

Easy to book online at short notice, and a good price. The location was easy to find, very central and the service in the shop was lovely. Luggage was kept safe and it all felt completely secure so I’d definitely use Stasher again.
