LOT Carry-On Cabin Baggage

LOT’s carry-on luggage limits are determined by class, fare, and route. Passengers with Economy Saver, Economy Class, and international Premium Economy tickets can bring one piece of luggage that doesn’t weigh more than 8 kilograms. Premium Economy ticket holders on intercontinental flights are permitted two pieces of carry-on luggage with a combined weight of 12 kilograms, and neither bag can weigh over 8 kilograms. Business Class passengers can always bring two carry-on bags, but neither can weigh more than 9 kilograms.

In addition to allotted cabin luggage, travelers can carry on food, collapsible baby strollers, and children’s push-chairs. Personal handbags and laptops are also permitted — so long as they don’t exceed 2 kilograms or are larger than 40 cm x 35 cm x 12 cm.

Individuals with disabilities can bring wheelchairs into the cabin. Once they’re seated, flight attendants will check the chair in the hold and return it upon landing. Crutches and other medical devices are also permitted. If, however, you have a large piece of apparatus, it’s best to call ahead and secure space.

LOT Checked Baggage

LOT’s checked baggage limit is based on ticket class and flight route. Economy Saver passengers aren’t allotted any included checked baggage space. Standard and Flex Economy passengers can check one piece of luggage that weighs no more than 23 kilograms. If the flight is intercontinental, that number jumps to two.

LOT Excess Baggage Policy

LOT makes it easy to purchase extra baggage space for flights. Just hop on their website, and follow the prompts. Each additional piece will cost between US$55 and US$380 depending on size and flight route.

Note that purchasing extra baggage space online at least 12 hours ahead of time costs 20 percent less than buying at the airport check-in counter.

Additionally, keep in mind that you will pay more if your luggage is larger or heavier than allotted limits.

LOT Sports Equipment

LOT allows passengers to check sports equipment. If you only have sports equipment, and your ticket allows for checked baggage, you may not be subject to excess baggage fees. If you’ve already used up your luggage allotment, then you’ll need to pay an excess baggage fee.

The airline has given lots of thought to their luggage equipment excess baggage pricing, and the result is a complex matrix based on sport and flight route. To look up your equipment, head to LOT’s sport’s equipment page here. It includes everything from skiing stuff to javelins to rubber dinghies. Information for sport weapons is here.

LOT Musical Instruments

LOT passengers traveling with a musical instrument have a few options.

  1. If it’s small enough — a flute, clarinet, piccolo, et cetera — you can carry it on board.
  2. If it fits within the luggage size standard, and your ticket includes a baggage allowance, you can check a musical instrument if it doesn’t exceed size limitations.
  3. If you want to check a musical instrument, but have already used up your luggage allowance, you can book bulk luggage space via LOT’s website or customer service call center.
  4. If your instrument is oversized, buying it a ticket is another option. However, if the ax is too large, it may not be allowed. Similarly, if it surpasses checked baggage standards, you’ll have to find an alternative transport method.

It’s always a good idea to call LOT ahead of time to secure space for musical instruments. Because remember, if a flight hold is filled, the airline may send your instrument on a separate flight — which is a recipe for lost luggage.
