If you follow travel news and trends, the name BauBax might ring a bell: the travel jacket with 15 unique features that promised to make the life of globetrotters worldwide easier. The product was a huge hit, managing to gain over than $9M in Kickstarter funding.
Although you would expect this to be the happy ending to their story, the manufacturers of the “Swiss Army Knife of Travel Jackets” are back with a new and improved version of their product. The BauBax 2.0 hit the markets in September, and we are going to take a look at it!
About BauBax 2.0
It is no secret that here at Stasher, we love to travel without dragging heavy luggage with us. Not only have we built a service around it, but we also share frequent guides on light travelling. The BauBax travel jacket promises to become your 25-in-one travel solution, offering many solutions to problems that travellers often face. That includes gadget storage, travel comfort and saving valuable luggage space. But how do they do that?
BauBax 2.0 features
BauBax makes four types of travel jackets for both men and women. All of them have the same features but differ slightly in price and design.
The available jacket types are:
- Bomber
- Windbreaker
- Sweatshirt
- Vest
The big selling point of the BauBax 2.0 jackets are the features designed to make travelling easier. Those include dedicated pockets for your phone, tablet and passport, as well as a footrest and a built-in inflatable pillow. Here is a full list of the BauBax features:
- Inflatable Pillow
- Eye Mask
- Passport Pocket
- Drink Pocket
- Bottle Opener
- Charger Pocket
- Gloves
- Whistle
- Hand Warming Pockets
- Sunglass Pocket
- Microfiber Cloth
- Ipad Pocket
- Apple Pencil Pocket
- Secret Pocket
- Phone Pocket
- Earplug Pocket (earplugs included)
- Airpods Pocket
- Powerbank Pocket
- Blanket Pocket
- Zipper Pen + Stylus
- Airpod Straps
- Earphone Holder
- Travel Bottle
- Footrest
- Blanket
Taking a look at the features, it is easy to understand that this jacket was made exclusively for the digital nomad/travelling professional. The attention to detail is stunning, as each pocket was specifically designed to hold the appropriate item. On the downside, some features are missing in certain models, but the difference is reflected in the final price.
What’s most impressive about the BauBax is how they managed to fit all of this storage space in such an inconspicuous way. Sure, when fully loaded, the jacket is a bit bulky, but it doesn’t look that way. Also, some users reported that although the jacket is warm, it can get a bit too much when it’s not that cold outside.
Thoughts on the BauBax 2.0
The BauBax surprisingly delivers on what it promises and is actually very helpful for those who want to travel light. Especially if you only want to fly with a carry-on and a personal item, you can save quite a lot of space by transferring your electronic devices on the jacket. Plus, it is not extremely expensive, and it doesn’t look ugly (compared to other knockoffs on the market).
However, it is important to understand that this jacket is more useful for airports, planes and trains. Once taken out of the transportation context, the BauBax loses most of its practical value and becomes a regular jacket (albeit a good one). In any case, if you frequently travel during the winter, this product might be for you.
