Turkish Airlines Baggage Allowance – 2024 Guide

Does your latest trip have you taking Turkish Airlines to get there? Turkish Airlines is Turkey’s official airline, serving North, South, and Central Americas, along with Europe, Asia, and Africa. If you’re flying with Turkish Airlines soon, it’s a good idea to see how much it will cost to take your luggage with you on your plane.

Turkish Airlines lets its customers bring baggage according to the type of flight booked. If you are an economy traveler, you get one bag that weighs under 8kg. If you’re a business traveler, you get two bags, with each bag weighing 8kg or under. And if you have an infant with you, that 8kg of baggage allowance is free.

There are no rules for baggage not subject to duties. If this baggage exceeds the weight allowance, Turkish Airlines will treat it as checked-in luggage.

Turkish Airlines Musical Instruments

  • Instrument Dimensions: 118cm (length x width x height)
  • Instrument Weight: 75kg

If your instrument meets the above requirements, it’s good to go as cabin luggage. Instruments like guitars can be brought as carry-on luggage for free. The cello can also be brought as carry-on luggage, but there is a fee. If your instrument is too large for the cabin, you can pay for it to be transported as checked luggage.

If you need to transport your cello, please make a reservation for it 48 hours prior to your flight. If this reservation is not made at least two days before your flight, it won’t be allowed on board. So, be sure to make this reservation!

If your instrument is being kept in the aircraft hold, it must be in a hard case. The airline cannot transport instruments that aren’t in a hard case. If your instrument is oversized for the hold, there will be excess baggage fees.

You’ll be glad to know that musical instruments are not loaded into the hold via a conveyor belt. Instead, they are carefully placed in the hold.

Turkish Airlines Contact Information

Turkish Airlines makes contacting them easy. They are available via multiple platforms, depending on your personal preferences.

If you want to call them, go here and select your country from the drop down box at the top of the page. The phone number will immediately appear once you’ve selected your country.

If you are hearing impaired, the airline offers video calling, allowing you to use sign language to communicate.

If you don’t want to talk on the phone, or if you think your question is easily answered, Turkish Airlines has created a Frequently Asked Questions page just for that.

If your baggage is already checked in to the airport, you can keep track of it here.

Whatever you need, Turkish Airlines is happy to help.

Alternative to Excess Baggage Fees

While Turkish Airlines is a great airline, those baggage fees will quickly add up if you’re traveling with more than a carry-on. This is especially true if you’re flying during popular holiday times or tourist seasons. So while it’s a great idea to book your flight with Turkish Airlines, you might consider an alternate way to get your luggage to your destination.

That’s where Stasher comes into the picture.

With Stasher, you can ship up to 30kg (for each bag!) at incredibly affordable rates. And for a little extra, you can ship even heavier luggage. There is no limit to how many items you can include in your reservation with us.

By using Stasher, you’ll eliminate the need to purchase bags at the airport, take them to the hold, or worry about fitting them in the locker over your seat. Instead, you’ll go through the easiest process ever.
