NFL London Games: How To Survive the Wembley Bag Policy

For three weekends in October, the “Home of Football” will once again become the “Home of American Football” as the 2018 NFL London Games will be hosted in the Wembley Arena for the 11th year in a row. However, as you might already know, the NFL doesn’t take too kindly to extra baggage. Learn how to deal with the infamous Wembley Stadium Bag Policy and store your bags like a pro!

Around 90,000 people are expected to show up for the first game on October 14th, and the authorities are already implementing increased safety measures, especially regarding your personal belongings. What this means is that it will be virtually impossible to bring any type of bag or sack inside the stadium without going through an exhausting ordeal.

Wembley’s bag policy is notoriously strict, as they actively discourage spectators from bringing any sacks or bags inside the Stadium, without providing any storage option.

In addition, there is a high chance that you might get searched by “friendly” search teams. However, all of that will be a picnic compared to the NFL’s bag policy, which will be in effect during the London Games.

Wembley Stadium Bag Policy

Ticket holders to all events are not allowed to bring any type of baggage into the stadium, unless it adheres to strict regulations.

All bags will be inspected upon entry unless you purchase a clear plastic bag from the merchandise stands on the outer concourse or the external stadium store. This bag will then be sealed until you enter the venue.

Bags no larger than A4  are allowed within the premises. The exact dimensions are:

  • Height 297mm (11.7 inches)
  • Width 210mm (8.27 inches)
  • Depth 210mm (8.27 inches)

The NFL “Clear Bag” Policy in Wembley Stadium

The NFL will enforce a “clear bag” policy for all games, meaning that all ticket holders will be banned from bringing any bags into the stadium, unless they are NFL-approved (i.e. non-transparent). All spectators will be searched upon entry, and the NFL reserves the right to refuse entry to anyone who carries prohibited items in the stadium.

Coincidentally, the European NFL e-shop sells NFL-approved bags right before gameday.

According to the policy only allows you to bring clear plastic bags of up to 30x30x15cm, 1-gallon freezer bags or purses no larger than 11x15cm. For reference, this is about 1cm larger than a 2018 smartphone. We’re suspecting regulations like that earned them the nickname No Fun League!

So, unless you can fit everything in your pockets, say goodbye to your wallet, lip-gloss, bottles, inhalers, cameras, keys or snacks. Who needs them? Besides, you can always leave them in the car. Nobody will know they’re there.

Except, you know, thieves who happen to know what’s going on in the area.

Beat the Wembley Stadium bag policy!

After reading all of this, you might just want to stay home and watch the games from the comfort of your own couch. You can eat whatever you want for free, nobody will frisk you (unless you want to) and the toilet is always readily available. Or you can go to the pub, where you’ll be able to enjoy significantly cheaper pints and have a laugh with friends.
